The First Ever GLOC Shootout Was Awesome!

Grand Lake has a new event to be really proud of…The Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees (GLOC) High Performance Boat Shootout.

The inaugural shootout took place last weekend (July 10 & 11) in Grove and by all accounts was a HUGE Success.

There were obstacles…there always are with events like that…but everything came together to make a great day on the water near Sailboat Bridge in Grove.

Apparently, the GLOC Shootout is already the 2nd most attended on the water event on Grand Lake…behind the Duck Creek Fireworks. That’s impressive!

GLOC will be back next year…with the dates already set for July 7-10, 2016.

Below is their full Thank You press release, and make sure to visit the GLOC website HERE for more pictures and more info about the GLOC Shootout.

Here is the official press release:

WOW! That was AWESOME!

The inaugural GLOC High Performance Boat Shootout at Grand Lake was a HUGE SUCCESS, and we couldn’t have done it without YOU!

The GLOC Executive Committee sincerely wants to thank each and every individual and organization that helped make this event a success. Sponsors, volunteers, participants, spectators. EVERYONE!

The Grand River Dam Authority was fantastic. We got so much help from the City of Grove. And of course, all of those who stepped up to help make this event a Grand Success!

We also want to Thank Ron Duggan and everybody from Lake of the Ozarks and LOTO that helped us plan and pull off this great event.

Sure there were challenges…high winds, high water and debris that needed to be cleared from the course the morning of the event just to name a few…but our volunteers worked their tails off to make sure the shootout went smoothly.

And we can’t be more thankful.

The participants were so patient as we dealt with the high water and closed boat ramps to get the boats in the water for the shootout – and then each and every one ran a beautiful race that thrilled the crowds!

Speaking of the crowds…500 boats, thousands more watching from the shore…WOW. Think there is a little interest in events like this at Grand?

Word on the street is that GLOC Shootout is already the 2nd most attended on the water event at Grand Lake, behind the Duck Creek Fireworks. WOW!

Many of the participants commented on what a wonderful community we have in Grove and around Grand Lake, and we couldn’t agree more.

And that, really, is the purpose of the GLOC Shootout – ‘to share our lake and the wonderful communities that surround it.”

Here are just a few of the comments we’ve received from the shootout participants:

“WOW!!!!! that is all I have to say!!!! This event is going to be the GRANDADDY of all events!!!

I am so impressed with the turnout of spectators and the hospitality shared by all…..simply AMAZING!!!

The Littles most definitely know how to do it! SKATER NATION appreciates all your hard work!!!

I have been to many performance boat events over the years and I can HONESTLY say the GLOC 2015 was one of the best organized and ran events I have ever been too. HONORED to have been part of the inaugural event!!!”

“And talk about a fantastic town full of fantastic people. The hospitality we witnessed and the kind words from so many was inspiring. Thank you to each and every community member for what you guys pulled off this weekend.”

“As a veteran shootout participant I want to commend you and your staff for putting such a professional well run event. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by your staff in a friendly manner and thanked for coming to your event. We felt at home and genuinely appreciated by everyone.

The race was well organized with almost no downtime. After our run we were congratulated by many members of your staff for putting such a good run. Again we felt appreciated. The award ceremony was excellent and again we were made to feel appreciated by everyone in attendance.”

Even the legendary (at least in his own mind) Grand Lake Bum had nice things to say:

If you weren’t at Grand Lake for the inaugural running of the GLOC Performance Boat Shootout, it’s your loss!  Congratulations to organizers Ken & Linda Little, Jon & Angela Good, Marty Follis, and more than 100 other volunteers who pulled of a fabulous event. Linda Little did a spectacular job with Larry Hestand keeping the crowd informed on KGVE Radio’s live broadcast. THAT’S how you do a Grand Lake event!  I think 90% of the people on Grand Lake were all gathered up in one spot to watch the races – and nobody was disappointed. By the way, this is one of only four shootout events in the country, and the only one that could be watched from land.  I think I see a long future ahead for this one!

All the kind words are great, but it could not have been done without you!

Full results are below, but again…THANK YOU!!!

It was an awesome day for so many in so many ways and we can’t tell you how much we appreciate the support and love we received from so many in the Grand Lake and performance boating communities.
