September sees the return of two great, local traditions: college football and REC Day. REC Day, known as Northeast Oklahoma Electric Cooperative’s annual meeting, takes place this year on September 17 at the Grove Civic Center and it is sure to be a good time.
Cooperative members will want to arrive early at the civic center to enjoy free donuts and coffee while they browse the arts and crafts booths outside before making their way inside. Once inside, they’ll register for the meeting, complete a ballot and visit the cooperative and other vendor booths. Returning are crowd favorites Blue Starr Mothers and The F.E.W (Foundation for Exceptional Warriors).
Also returning to REC Day for the third year is the outdoor kidzone, complete with games, prizes, and student registration for computer drawings. One lucky student from each of the following counties will receive a computer: Craig/Rogers, Ottawa, Mayes, and Delaware. Near the kidzone, representatives from PAAS (Peaceful Animal Adoption Shelter) will be on hand with some of their adoptable pets. They will also be selling extra tickets for kids and adults to play games and enjoy activities at the kidzone.
After fun and games, enjoy a lunch of Frito chili pie under an outdoor tent while the sounds of a favorite local band, Reverse Reaction, fill the area with a mix of everything from Prince to Pink Floyd. Back inside the Civic Center, you will enjoy the music of Paul Bogart. Bogart is an up-and-coming country artist from Oologah. His music is inspired by and reflective of traditional country music. As Paul describes it: “All of my music just fits under a cowboy hat.” A brand new father, Paul just released just released his third album with his band.
Don’t forget one of the most important of activities at REC Day: prize drawings. This year, winning members will score big.
Paying homage to a true Oklahoma love, the 2016 REC Day prizes feature items sure to help you enjoy your favorite football team. In additional to our traditional $500 electric credits, the prize list includes three pair of tickets to the OU vs. OSU Bedlam game in Norman on December 3, a selection of Yeti coolers, a grill, smoker, generator and an impressive watch party package that features a television, Yeti, tent, table, and more.
How do you make sure you have a chance to win one of these great prizes? Simply register at REC Day. Registration is open from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday, September 17, at the Grove Civic Center. You do not have to be present to win most prizes, so there’s no excuse to punt on your chance to win. See you there.
