Art On The Lake at Har-Ber Village

August 6, 2016 @ 9:30 am - 1:30 pm

Art on the Lake at Har-Ber Village

Har-Ber Village Museum presents an exciting new family-friendly event this year: Art on the Lake on August 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Artists who use a diverse range of media have been invited to demonstrate their skills at the Village, and in several cases, to provide opportunities for our visitors to have hands-on participation in the craft.

Depending on the activity, there may be a small materials fee charged by the artist to cover his or her expenses.

Artists will also have their work available for sale.

Individual artists who will be onsite this day include:

  • Vyrl Keeter, a Cherokee flint knapper who creates arrowheads and other tools from obsidian, chert, jasper and more
  • Susan Allen of Dolly Day Spa will assist with the art of doll making – visitors can fashion dolls from rags or corn husks
  • Blacksmith Bob Weeks will make iron art in the Village’s blacksmith shop
  • Water color artist Phyllis Pace will be stationed in the Craft Room to provide experiences in print making
  • Toni McPhee is spending her retirement time doing what she loves doing best—pottery! Visit with her to explore the properties of clay.
  • Sandra (Fay West) Haynes is a local designer and crafter with a special fondness for stones, leather and precious metals. Her designs are on sale in the Har-Ber Village Country Store and she teaches basic jewelry making workshops at the Village.
  • Gloria Smoke-King, a bead designer and artist from Salisaw, OK, has been creating beaded items for over 45 years. She learned how to bead while attending Seneca Indian School in Wyandotte, Okla, during her elementary school years and then taught her mother to bead. King and her sister Rhonda are Cherokee and are co-owners of Smokin DeSignz, creating handmade native-designed accessories.

Artists from the Brush and Palette Gallery will display artwork in Har-Ber Village’s Gallery throughout the month of August.

Their art will be for sale with 10% of each sale benefiting the Village.

Members of Brush and Palette, who range from amateurs to professionals and in all different styles, will be painting on the grounds during Art on the Lake Day.

Also on display for all to see will be the art projects of participants of the Village’s Art Camp for 9-13 year-olds. The week-long camp runs from August 1-4 and still has a few spaces available.

All Art on the Lake Day activities are free with museum admission unless otherwise noted.

Har-Ber Village Museum hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, 12:30 to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults; $7.50 for seniors 62+; $5 for children ages 6-13; under 6 and members are free.

Museum admission is not necessary to shop in the Village retail shops, to eat at the Café or to walk the Nature Trail.
