A large sprinkle of the “Salt Life” will fall upon the Grand Lake area this June with the First Annual Toes in the Grand Summer Kickoff Festival in Grove’s Wolf Creek Park on Grand Lake O’ The Cherokees, June 1st, and 2nd.

A new event – being billed as the largest free Trop Rock music festival in Mid America – the Toes in the Grand Festival promises to be one of the signature events at Grand Lake.

Donnie Crain, president of the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce remarked, “Here in Grove and Grand Lake, we are known far and wide for a laid back, lake lifestyle and this festival is a celebration of that. With award-winning bands and great entertainers coming from Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri, we are so excited about this new event. We expect to draw Parrotheads and Trop Rock music fans from far outside our traditional market areas, show them a good time, and make Grand Lake their new ‘favorite place’ for lake fun and recreation!”

While the Festival includes a wide range of fun and activities for young and old alike to include food trucks, arts and crafts, a kid’s zone, helicopter rides, a car show, and a 5K fun run, much of the fun will be focused on the Festival’s Entertainment Stage sponsored by Cherokee Casino Grove.

Kicking things off on Friday, June 1st at 2 p.m. will be the Blonde Stranger Band from Springfield, Missouri.

The four members of the band have years of experience playing in a number of popular bands in the Springfield area and in recent years came together to form the Blond Stranger Band, playing music best described as “Rock ‘n roll with a Tropical Flair.”

Following the Blond Stranger Band at 6 p.m. will be Friday’s headliners, Rick Lamb & the Phin AddictsPhin Addicts

Also from the Springfield area, Rick Lamb & the Phin Addicts are well-known in Trop Rock circles, having performed all over the country and internationally at some of biggest Parrothead and Trop Rock events.

Playing a combination of original and cover tunes, they promise to take festival-goers on a journey through the tropics and the life of paradise as can only be shared through beach life.

Musical fun on the stage kicks off on Saturday, June 2nd at 10:30 am with Greg Dragoo, a popular entertainer from Oklahoma City who has in recent years gotten more involved in the Trop Rock music scene, first as a member of the Pirates of the Plains group and now as a solo performer.

Greg performs some of the most popular Trop Rock cover tunes, from popular artists such as Jimmy Buffett, Jack Johnson, the Zac Brown Band, and Kenny Chesney.

The COPA Reefer Band takes the Cherokee Casino Grove Entertainment Stage at 2 pm on Saturday afternoon.

Composed from members of the Central Oklahoma Parrotheads Association – the “COPA” in their name – the band is based out of Oklahoma City but plays their unique brand of Trop Rock, Classic Rock, Pop, Country and originals throughout Oklahoma and North Texas.

Jerry Diaz and Hanna’s Reef is Saturday evening’s headline performer and will start performing at 6 p.m.

From the Galveston, Texas area, the band is renown for their unique and fun “Texas Beach Music” sound and is a Trop Rock favorite known to many as the premier Gulf Coast Beach Band.

Jerry Diaz and Hanna’s Reef have been the winners of multiple Trop Rock Music Awards and perform regularly throughout the Gulf Coast region, from Corpus Christi, Texas to Key West, Florida.

“It is very exciting to bring a nationally-known Trop Rock band like Jerry Diaz & Hanna’s Reef here to Grove & Grand Lake,” said Crain. “Their brand of ‘fun in the sun’ tropical music is always fun and they work hard to create a full-blown ‘Texas-luau’ atmosphere on stage. Folks who come to their show are sure to have a great time!”

In addition to the great music, there will be hilarious and entertaining “Island Fun & Games” events both days in the stage area, to include a hula hoop contest, limbo contest, and the Four State’s Largest Conga Line.

The “Island Fun & Games” are sponsored by Patricia Island Country Club and Mulligan’s and are sure to add to the fun and festive atmosphere of the Festival

“The emphasis is on fun at the Toes in the Grand Festival,” said Crain. “We want everyone to come out, enjoy themselves, and have a great time.”

Best of all, the music and fun & games is free so festival organizers encourage everyone to come “by land or by Grand,” bring their lawn chairs and celebrate our unique way of life here at Grand Lake.

The Toes in the Grand Summer Kickoff Festival is presented by the Grove Convention & Tourism Bureau.
