Catching Blue Cats at Grand Lake

Did you happen to see the article about Grand Lake’s own Jerry Kropff and catching Blue Cats at Grand Lake?

It was a great article recently published in the Kansas City Star – and I don’t want to rip off the article, so you’ll have to click here to read the article and get all (or at least some) of Jerry’s secrets.

Technology is a big part of the strategy used in getting into the blue catfish, even though that doesn’t always guarantee that they will bite!

It’s interesting when Jerry talks about the lack of really big blue cats in Grand Lake, but the great news is that there are a whole bunch of those 20 to 30 pounders that are great fun to catch.

So, check out that article for some good tips, including:

  • What kind of technology to use, and why a traditional sonar might not be enough to find the fish
  • Why finding a school of gar is usually a good thing when your looking for blue cats
  • How the fish move when the lake starts to warm back up in the spring

All in all, a great article about a true Grand Lake sportsman and some fine tips for a fun day of catching blues on Grand Lake.
