We are well into February here at Grand Lake, and second hand reports tell me that people are catching a bunch of fish all over the lake right now.

You know, fish stories!

Anyway, here is the latest fishing report from a guy who would know, local guide Rusty Pritchard:

Hey folks!

What a spoonbill season it has been!!

I was on 19 straight days on the water and the bad weather gave me a day off on Monday, but right back at it on Tuesday.

The spoonbill are stacked up – they are really thick from Catfish Point to Patricia Island in the main river channel.

We’ve boated over 400 spoonies from Thanksgiving through Tuesday February 17 and we are on track to beat our 6 month total from last year at 948 spoonbill!!

I’m still trolling 3 pounds of weight and running a Spoonbill King 10/0 treble hook on 80 pound Power Pro braided line.

My clients have boated some hefty fish on average this year with our biggest boated this year coming in at 86lbs!

And it was while we were filming a TV show called Fired Up Outdoors on the Pursuit Channel!

I’m also really excited to have Melissa Bachman down to fish with me in April! Melissa is a huge female ambassador for the great outdoors!!!

Catfish are really biting really well!

I’ve ran quite a few cat trips the last few weeks and it’s been a solid bite!

I’m using cut shad and I’ve been graphing out the main river channel looking for shad and cats together and anchoring out on them.

They have been running in around 40-60 feet of water, but if you don’t have a bite in the first 20 minutes it’s time to move on – look for the active fish!

We’ve been focusing in the mid lake area.

Crappie are biting fair in the docks. I’ve seen some good crappie being caught.

Make sure to checkout Fle-Fly online and see some of the new baits they are coming out with!!
