Grand Lake Again Recognized Among Top Bass Fishing Lakes In US For 2016

Once again, Bassmaster magazine has ranked its top bass fishing lakes in the nation and, once again, the Grand River Dam Authority’s lakes are on the list.

In the central division of the United States, the magazine recognized both Grand Lake and Lake Hudson among its top 25 and that is likely no surprise to the anglers who frequent these waters.

Grand Lake, now a two-time host of the Bassmaster Classic (2013 and 2016) made the list at number 8 with Lake Hudson checking in at number 20.

Of course, this type of recognition is nothing new for either Grand or Hudson.

In fact, last year, the magazine’s ranking of the top 100 bass lakes in the nation included Grand at 13. Hudson also made that list, at 64.

Together, the lakes host hundreds of fishing tournaments and thousands of anglers annually and that serves to boost the lake-area economy all across the region.

According to Bassmaster, the rankings are a product of months of research as well as input from B.A.S.S. members all across the country. Information from state fisheries biologists, tournament data and input from bass fishing enthusiasts was also considered.

As host of the 2016 Bassmaster Classic, Grand Lake had the sport’s spotlight all to itself for a few days in March while Lake Hudson was also playing host to the Bassmaster College Series-College Classic.

“We’re very proud of [the rankings] and it has taken a lot of hard work to get them there,” said GRDA Tournament Director/Fisheries Coordinator Brent Davis, back in March when Grand was preparing for the Classic. Much of that work centers around proper lake management efforts to enhance fishing at Grand Lake and Lake Hudson, added Davis.

For GRDA, that includes the annual Rush For Brush effort, as well as catch and release practices and other initiatives to enhance the fisheries.
