The first of May unofficially kicks off the summertime season at Grand Lake, and there is a ton of stuff going on all around Grand Lake this 1st weekend of May in 2017.

Oh…and the rain has gone away, it’s going to be beautiful weather and the lake level is going down.

Speaking of the lake level, if you are going to be on the lake this weekend, please be careful.

There is all sorts of debris out there that you might not see, and when the water is high your wake can also cause more damage to property than at normal lake levels.

So…keep your speed in check and be aware out there.

Alrighty then, that disclaimer out of the way, here’s a quick rundown on everything going on this weekend.

Oh…if you were planning on going to the GRDA Lake Launch event at the Ecosystems and Education Center in Langley on Friday…don’t. It’s canceled, so the GRDA staff can focus on the high water levels and flood control. Yep, that’s what they said.

Also, if you were planning on taking part in the Cedar Port Marina Scavenger Hunt…hold that thought. It’s rescheduled to next Saturday…so bring your Mom!

*Quick note – for more details on any of these things below, visit the Events page of this website HERE.

Garage Sales – Holy smokes…if you want to buy some second hand stuff, this is your weekend! There is the Grove City Wide Garage Sale, the Gran Tara Community Garage Sale and the Second Chance Thrift Store Garage Sale….tons of great (and not so great) stuff is available. So…go buy things!

Boat Shows – In-water boat shows are going on at most of the area marinas. Including Arrowhead, Cedar Port, Shangri-La, Marine Max, Grand Lake Boat Sales and Ugly John’s. If you are in the market for a new boat for your Grand Lake summer, weekends like this are a perfect opportunity to test a bunch of different boats.

Food, Fun & Music – With summer so close, that means one thing for sure…those seasonal bars and restaurants are opening! Sharky’s at Hammerhead Marina, the all new Eddy’s at Shangri-La Marina and Ugly’s Bar and Grill all open for the season on Friday, May 5th. Make sure to visit THIS PAGE to see all of the Grand Lake waterfront bars and restaurants.

Drinking Wine – The First Friday Wine Share goes down Friday evening at 5:30 at the Tera Miranda Shores Clubhouse. Originally scheduled to be at The Quarterdeck, this had to be moved because of the high water. Whether you live here full time or are just visiting for the first time, the First Friday Wine Share is a great time and the perfect place to meet other Grand Lakers. There are only 3 requirements – show up, bring a glass and bring a bottle of wine!

In Grove – A couple of great things to do in Grove on Saturday…Art in the Garden at Lendonwood Gardens and the Second Chance Pet Rescue Open House. This is the perfect time of the year to visit Lendonwood Gardens with so many beautiful flowers in bloom. There will be Arts and Crafts and refreshments available to enjoy your time in the Garden. Then, head on over to the Second Chance Pet Rescue and check out their recently completed expansion. And the dogs and cats…shoot…maybe you can even take on home!

Schools Out For Summer Picnic – The Arrowhead Yacht Club deck is the place to be from 11 am to 2 pm for the Schools Out For Summer Picnic, complete with fried chicken, hot dogs, deviled egg potato salad, watermelon and…applie pie. It’s only $10 for adults and is open to everyone. Plus, at noon, you can check out the Duck Creek Fireworks press conference, complete with the unveiling of the official 2017 Duck Creek Fireworks t-shirt.

Burn Those Socks – And last, but certainly not least, head over to Harbors View Marina on Saturday evening for the annual Burning of the Socks celebration. Live music, games, food, cold drinks and a big bon-fire to burn those nasty socks you’ve been wearing all winter. Sounds like the perfect way to kick off a Grand Lake Summer!

So…yea…there is a bunch going on all over Grand Lake this weekend.

And it’s just the start of the super summer of 2017 at Grand Lake!
