Wow. There is a whole bunch going on around Grand Lake this weekend
From a big off-road event in Disney to the super popular REC Day at Grove and then wrapped up with some of the best food and wine you will find anywhere at the Taste of Grand.
They have been calling for rain all week, but as we get closer to the weekend it looks like the weather is going to yet again be perfect and let you do what you love doing at Grand Lake – whether that is taking in the events or just taking it all in. It’s up to you!
Wheelin For the Wounded 2014 in Disney – Sept 19-21
This awesome event kicks off the weekend on Friday in Disney as 4-wheelers and off-roaders from around the region once again descend on Disney and all the tremendous off-roading that is found below the Pensacola Dam.
2014 is the 7th year for this off-road event that includes a poker run, raffles, guided wheeling, open wheeling and of course great food all weekend long in Disney.
This year the event has moved to Green Country Camp located at 136 S. Garrison Ave (Turn south at PJ’s in Disney).
Registration will take place at Green Country Camp on Friday night from 6pm-8pm and Saturday morning – which include breakfast – from 8 am to 10 am.
OKJT – OK Jeep Thing – will be having their annual Meet-N-Greet Cookout on Friday Night September 19th in the Rock Garden and invites everyone to attend.
Here is the Saturday schedule:
- Drivers meeting in the Rock Garden at 10am.
- Group Run 10am – 12pm
- Lunch at Green Country Camp will be available from 11am – 1pm
- Poker Run 2pm
- Dinner at Green Country Camp 6pm – 8pm
- Raffles at Green Country Camp 7pm – 9pm
This year the event is benefiting The Hero Project and Wounded Warrior Family Support.
The Wounded Warriors Family Support helps soldiers and veterans whose lives have been impacted when defending our country and freedom by installing ramps and other needs into their daily lives to help adjust and make life a little easier.
The Hero Project sends the children of a parent that has paid the ultimate sacrifice to a specialty summer camp or vacation of their choice that the parent would not be able to do otherwise.
For those of you in the Grand Lake area that don’t know about the off-roading events that go on in Disney, you really need to check them out.
The terrain below Pensacola Dam is perfect for rock-crawling and all sorts of things and the off-roaders and jeepers come from throughout the South Central US to Grand Lake several times a year.
It’s great stuff and let’s make sure they keep coming back!
REC Day at Grove Civic Center
It’s also time for the annual REC Day at the Grove Civic Center on Saturday, September 20th, this year celebrating the 76th year of doing business for the Northeast Oklahoma Electric Cooperative.

2014 Taste of Grand at Grove Civic Center
Once REC Day is over, the Grove Civic Center will transform itself into the elegant location for the 2014 Taste of Grand.
Grand Lake’s premier wine and food tasting event takes place from 6 pm to 10 pm and features the largest ever group of Grand Lake area restaurants and vintners with food and wine for attendees to sample.
