This Valentine’s Day weekend at Grand Lake shapes up to be a little sweet and a little sour – at least as far as the weather goes.

Sweet on Saturday, with highs in the 60’s, then turning sour on Sunday, with it getting, well, cold…

If you are just now starting to think about where to take your sweetheart for a romantic dinner on Saturday Night – well BAD on you.

Chances are that all the best spots, from The Artichoke at the South end through your favorites on Monkey Island all the way to the Casinos in the Miami area are pretty well booked up. At least for prime-time dining options.

But that is OK. Just because all of the marketing ever tells you that you must buy flowers and chocolate and take your valentine out for a romantic dinner…that doesn’t mean you have to do it.

Shoot…if we all did what all the area marketers told us we would ALL have a brand new boat thanks to the altruistic Grand Lake boat dealers at the Tulsa Boat Show last weekend – although apparently at least some dealers sold every single boat they took to the boat show. Really? Every single boat???? Another year of the Best Boat Show ever, I guess…

Anyway, back to what to do this weekend – with a little nod towards your sweetie…

Do whatever he or she wants! That’s it…it’s not rocket science…

If your Valentine likes to cuddle and watch movies…then get your rear-end on that couch and watch whatever he or she wants.

Maybe your Valentine likes to shop – well, there is a perfect option for that this weekend.

And as always – if your Valentine likes to get out and shake that money maker every now and then…there are plenty of live music and entertainment options throughout the area.

So, what are some of the thingsĀ on tap at Grand Lake this weekend:

  • 17th Annual Grove Area Chamber of Commerce Home & Garden Show – This would fall under the shopping option mentioned above. The Home & Garden Show takes place at the Grove Civic Center (1720 S. Main St) on Friday the 13th from 3 pm – 7 pm, Saturday the 14th from 10 am – 6 pm and Sunday the 15th from 11 am – 3 pm. It’s only $3 per day or $5 for a weekend pass, and you can see all the latest in products and services to help you with your home and garden project.
  • Cleora United Methodist Church Pancake Breakfast – Get your Valentines Day off to a great start with a delicious pancake breakfast and great fellowship at Cleora United Methodist Church between 8 am and 11 am. Donations for missions sponsored by Cleora United Methodist Women will be accepted.
  • Women’s Auxiliary Association of Monkey Island Soup & Chili Lunch – After getting breakfast at the Cleora Church, you can head on to the Monkey Island Fire Department for some soup and chili supporting the WAAMI. This fundraiser helps support the projects of the WAAMI for good causes throughout the area.
  • Lickitty Split Baby! – Grand Lake’s own and regional favorite Lickitty Split takes the stage on Valentine’s Night at Roadhogs Saloon at the entrance to Monkey Island. If your sweetheart likes to rock and roll, then you will be at this show.

You see, that’s the way it’s done at Grand Lake…a little breakfast fellowship in the morning and a little rock and roll at night.

And here are a few other reminders for this Valentine’s Day weekend at Grand Lake –

  • Boating is for lovers…
  • The couple that fishes together…
  • If we’re not jeepin’, she’s weepin’…
  • Baby, let’s cuddle…
