It’s Mother’s Day Weekend at Grand Lake!
Time to celebrate all of the mothers of the Grand Lake world…and if you or your mom likes getting wet…it should be a perfect weekend.
Yep. It’s suppose to rain. A lot. Maybe even storm. A few times. All the way through Sunday.
The good news with that is it gives you more quality time to spend with your mama instead of running all over Grand Lake just to do different things. And that will make mama happy.
And, if you are a hardened Grand Laker….you are not afraid of a little rain.
There is something soothing about the sound of rain on the roof of a dock and catching fish in the rain and going for a boat ride just after the rain moves out. Just look out for the lightning, ok?
Anyway, in honor of mothers everywhere…there isn’t a whole bunch of ‘stuff’ going on this weekend anyway.
Shoot…there aren’t even any big fishing tournaments this weekend.
One note – the Grand Lake YMCA Family Fun Day originally scheduled for this Saturday the 9th has already been rescheduled to their rain date of Saturday, May 30th. You can click this link to find out more info on that event.
But here is what’s happening at Grand Lake this weekend, May 8th-10th, 2015:
- 4th Annual Summer Lake Launch Friday Night at GRDA Ecosystems Center in Langley – This now annual event is the ‘kickoff’ to the Grand Lake and Hudson Lake boating seasons. This year’s theme is ‘A Grand Summer Night’ and everyone is invited to attend. There will be free food, drinks, live music, games and all sorts of local vendors and GRDA staff on hand to answer any questions you might have….plus you can enter to win a gas grill and other great door prizes. More info can be found HERE.
- Happy Endings S.A.L.S.A. Party – This is another Friday night event…only this will be held at Island Joe’s Kentena on Monkey Island. The S.A.L.S.A. in this case stands for Supporters and Leaders to Stomp Out Assault and this party is a fundraiser for Community Crisis Center, Inc – a domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking advocacy center and shelter for women and their children who are seeking a path out from the violence in their lives. If you can’t make it to Langley, this will be a great time supporting an even better cause. Go HERE for more information.
- Lickitty Split at Road Hog Saloon on Saturday night – Momma like to party? Then you will definitely want to head to the Road Hog Saloon at the entrance to Monkey Island on Saturday night for local favorite Lickitty Split. They always pack the place and always throw an awesome party.
- International Take Mom Out To Eat Day – This Sunday, officially known as Mother’s Day, is really an excuse for you to pamper your mom, or wife, or whoever (just pamper someone, please!). Now, if you are like me and can whip up a pretty mean homemade eggs benedict, then get on it. If you are like most fellas, though, then it’s time to find your favorite Grand Lake restaurant for some fine food and relaxation. The yacht clubs in Duck Creek and Shangri-La will all have big spreads, I’m sure, but you can also visit any Grand Lake restaurant and you can bet they will have something special for mom!
As you are out and about this weekend, make sure to support your Grand Lake area businesses…including the waterfront bars and restaurants that help make Grand Lake so great.
Morrow’s Landing – the old Decks and more recently Oliver’s Twist – is now open under new ownership with what is sure to be a popular South Grand Lake stop and The Quarterdeck at Tera Miranda opens for the season this weekend with their great food and super popular breakfast buffet.
There you have it. Enjoy it…and Happy Mother’s Day!
