After a year off, The Great Grand Bobber Drop, sponsored by the Grand Lake Sports Center and Grand Lake Casino, returns to Grand Lake on Saturday, August 8th.
First things first…be safe and courteous out there.
It was safety concerns that led to the event being cancelled last year…so don’t be foolish when chasing the bobbers. Stay in your boat, don’t cut off others…you know, common sense stuff.
The best way to snag the bobbers out of the lake is with a fishing net. So make sure you have one of those.
6,300 bobbers will be dropped from a plane with a custom chute designed just for this event beginning at approximately 8 am and starting over the Honey Creek arm of the lake near Grove.
From the Honey Creek bridge the plane is going to travel down the middle of the lake as bobbers are constantly dropped to Monkey Island and then around the island towards Bernice before returning to Grove and Sailboat Bridge and then continuing to the Cowskin area and Elk River bridge.
The plane will probably make two loops through the ‘drop zone’ by 9 am.
Turning in Your Bobbers
The bobbers you collect can be turned in on Saturday at the Grand Lake Sports Center and at Grand Lake Casino on Highway 10 north of Grove.
You can only turn in up to two bobbers per person, per day…so be aware of that.
After Saturday, you can turn in bobbers at the Sports Center in Downtown Grove until 4 pm on Sunday, August 16th.
Bobber Drop Prizes
Lots of instant prizes donated by Grove area merchants will be won, from merchandise to gift certificates to free play at Grand Lake casino.
And everyone who finds and turns in a bobber by the deadline is automatically entered in the grand prize drawing for $2,500 that will take place at noon on Monday, August 17th at Grand Lake Casino – the main corporate sponsor of the 2015 Great Grand Bobber Drop.
Kids 12 and under who turn in a bobber also get a certificate good for a free ice cream cone at McDonalds.
All of the prizes will be awards. If prizes have not been claimed by the August 16th deadline, then names will be drawn from those who have already won prizes until all the prizes are given away.
