A little over three years ago the discussion of the Peaceful Animal Adoption Shelter started when a local Craig County Family went searching for their missing cat.
Petey was a well loved, healthy young neutered male Siamese mix cat that loved attention, sleeping, and eating. When Petey came up missing, his family searched everywhere in hopes that he would be found.
Through their searches they contacted several friends and community organizations realizing there was no place for missing or stray cats to be taken, no shelter to service the area and no safe haven for abandoned dogs and cats.
Yet, there was a huge need for help with missing and overpopulated stray animals in Craig County and the entire South Grand Lake areas.
The small group discussion led to a community changing non-profit organization being formed, and a board of directors being commissioned to take on the challenge of changing the future for the animals.
And with that, PAAS – The Peaceful Animal Adoption Shelter – was formed.
PAAS is an animal shelter that will house 48 dogs and 64 cats in a 7,037 sq ft building at 628 South Wilson in Vinita, Oklahoma.
PAAS will serve all of Craig County and the southern and western areas of Grand Lake to help reduce the overpopulation and abuse of cats and dogs as well as help locate lost pets with their owners.
In addition, PAAS will offer low cost spay and neuter programs, host educational seminars about animal care, and increase awareness about the overpopulation of animals and how you can help prevent it.
The tremendous outreach of community support has helped PAAS make the dream of having an animal shelter turn into a reality, many citizens have donated countless hours of time and generous donors have been gracious enough to help PAAS raise monetary funding to help start the building process.
One donor has even challenged citizens and animals lovers with a “Matching Donation” contribution. For every dollar donated, the donor will match the donation in an ongoing effort to help PAAS with the building and operating expenses.
The dream officially becomes a reality for the Peaceful Animal Adoption Shelter on Saturday, April 18th, 2015 as they celebrate the Official Grand Opening at 10:30 AM complete with a celebration that welcomes your entire family before our furry friends take over.
The all new state of the art PAAS building will be officially blessed and will offer guest tours of the completed building.
Everyone is welcome to join PAAS in the celebration of the new Peaceful Animal Adoption Shelter at 628 South Wilson Street in Vinita, OK.
This is the mission of PAAS. “Peaceful Animal Adoption Shelter will work with the city, county and state officials to increase public awareness of overpopulation issue. PAAS is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescue homeless and abused dogs and cats. We will be able to provide them temporary care until we can find them their “forever homes”.
