Jana Jae Fiddle Camp

September 2 - September 4

Grand Lake Festivals is excited to present the 2022 Jana Jae Fiddle Camp on September 2, 3 and 4 in beautiful Grove. Participants will play on stage throughout the weekend and spectators are welcome to enjoy this event and it is free to the public. Outstanding musicians and instructors will cover all age groups and all levels of ability and interest in playing the fiddle/violin, guitar, mandolin and other instruments.  This will be a fun-filled weekend of learning, enjoying great entertainment and jamming with friends.

The fun kicks off on Friday evening, September 2, at the Lake Side Kick-Off Party and BBQ Dinner at Snider’s Camp just south of Grove off US Hwy 59. The evening’s activities include entertainment by the popular Contraband String Band featuring Brad & Shirley Adams, Rosie Gorrell & Gary Stout. Others who will be featured in the entertainment line-up are Jana Jae, Barry “Bones” Patton and Friends, Clint Walker, Shelly Williams & Karen White from The Touch of Silver Band, and more.

Both Saturday and Sunday during the day the activity will be taking place at the Grove Civic Center with workshops and stage performances. The noon meal will again be provided ($8 a plate). Sunday morning at 9 a.m. musicians will gather for a gospel hour at the Civic Center. The public is invited to sing along or just enjoy some good gospel music. An added attraction at noon on Sunday will be the opportunity for the public to see what the participants have been working on as they entertain around the lunch tables. The Grand Finale presentation of all groups participating in the weekend camp will be featured on stage at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Musicians from all backgrounds, cultures and age groups learn new tunes, different styles, bowing, arranging and improvisation. Each participant has the opportunity to enjoy playing in a group or as a soloist on stage, using helpful instructions and tips on how to perform in contests and how to engage an audience.

The event will return to Snider’s on Saturday evening for a delicious dinner and great entertainment, including a fun Amateur Fiddle Contest.   Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the delicious food and entertainment, free to the public (food is $10 plate).

The Jana Jae Fiddle Camp is not just for fiddlers – violin, viola, cello, mandolin, guitar, bass and other string and rhythm instruments are included, and the workshop is open to participants regardless of age or prior experience.  Jim Garling and Jack Boydstun will teach guitar the entire weekend, such fun!  Other focus groups now include mandolin with Russ Weeks, cello with Judy Jones, bass with Rosie Gorell, spoons with Shirley Adams, tabla drums with David Karnes, and “Bones” with Barry “Bones” Patton.
