2022 Monkey Island Fireworks

Air Show, Skydivers, Concessions, and Music will Precede the Record Fireworks Show

The biggest Monkey Island Fireworks show in event history is scheduled for Sunday evening, July 3 at Shangri-La Resort.

In addition to a spectacular fireworks show at dusk, the afternoon and evening events will include World War II aircraft flyovers, skydivers, music by DJ Max, concession stands with Eli’s snow cones, kettle corn, and other delicious treats, as well as live entertainment at Eddy’s Lakeside Bar by the popular band Hypnotik.

Committee members for the annual extravaganza are Peggy Howard-Burgess, Doug Smith, and Mike Williams.

“We have had the usual outstanding financial support from dozens of loyal patrons, as well as area homeowners’ associations and fantastic support from the Grand River Dam Authority,”
said Peggy Howard-Burgess. “It is the generosity of our donors that has allowed us to expand the show with more fireworks and more entertaining presentations,” she said.

“We used to worry about raising enough money to put on such a big show,” said Doug Smith, “but we don’t worry about that anymore. Our supporters are consistently generous year
after year. That enables us to plan ahead far enough to make sure we have the best entertainment, and the best fireworks show available.”

“For those coming to the show by land, the Grand Lawn in front of Shangri-La’s resort hotel, and the event lawn at The Anchor activity park are the two best places to watch the show. Parking is a bit of an issue as the show gets bigger and more popular each year,” said Mike Williams.

“For those who have golf carts and live close enough to use that mode of transportation, we certainly encourage them to do so. Of course, people who have boats also have the opportunity for great front row seats on the water, just west of Shangri-La Marina,” he said.

Auxiliary parking will be available adjacent to the Grand Lake Regional Airport on Monkey Island, and shuttle buses will run regularly between the parking area and the resort hotel.

Vintage aircraft flyovers are scheduled from late afternoon, with skydivers set to appear at approximately 7:30 p.m. Fireworks, of course, will begin at dusk.

If You Have Donated to the Monkey Island Fireworks – Thank You! – If You Have Not Yet Donated – Please Help!

Sunday, July 3 is the date for the 2022 Monkey Island Fireworks. We will have a fantastic fireworks display, as well as flyovers, skydivers, music, concessions – and some other surprises, as well; but we need to raise the money, and time is slipping away.

Please give generously to support this 12th Annual Monkey Island Fireworks Display. We need to raise approximately $35,000 – and the only way to reach it is with your help.

Make your contribution payable to “Monkey Island Fireworks” and mail it to 30397 South 567 Road, Unit #63, Monkey Island, OK 74331.

If you would prefer, Shangri-La members can add your fireworks donation to monthly membership billing. Simply contact Katelin Jumper in writing, notifying her of the amount you wish to add to your membership charge as a special donation to the Monkey Island Fireworks. Contact her in writing via email at [email protected]

We are grateful to GRDA who has already stepped up to the plate with a $3,000 sponsorship – and we are grateful to our Monkey Island Fireworks Committee members Peggy Howard-Burgess, Doug Smith, and Mike Williams for all their hard work putting the organizational structure in place that is necessary for such a big event.
