Quilt Guild – Myth of the Underground Railroad

The February 7th meeting of the Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees Quilt Guild will feature Alice McElwain from Bella Vista, Arkansas. She will share stories about Civil War quilts, the Underground Railroad and the Women of the North and South. Alice is a teacher, historian and quilt appraiser. She participated in the Kansas Quilt Documentation in 1986 and is a member of M.O.K.A., a quilt study group of Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas.
The guild will have a booth at the Grove Home and Garden Show February 7-9 at the Grove Civic Center. A winning ticket will be drawn at the close of the show for a quilt made by members of the guild.
The Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees Quilt Guild meets the first Friday of every month at 10:00 AM at the Grove Community Center, located at 104 W 3rd Street in Grove. The purpose of the guild is to bring Grand Lake area quilters together to share, enjoy, teach & learn about quilting. Programs & workshops are presented throughout the year to encourage quilters to try all aspects of quilt making.
