Ready to go bass fishing and get paid or win prizes at the same time?
Well, at Oklahoma’s Grand Lake O’ the Cherokee you can do just that in 2014!
From April 1st to May 18th, the Grand Lake Extravaganza, presented by the Grand Lake Association and sponsored by Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa, will take place on Grand Lake.
What this means is that you can catch yourself up to $250,000 in prize winnings…just for catching the right fish.
Obviously, it’s not just show up, catch a fish, get paid…that would be too easy…so there are, you know, some rules and guidelines.
Some of the highlights:
- You must register in advance and get a badge (more on that in a minute)
- Must be 18 & a US resident
- Your fish must be a ‘wild largemouth bass with a minimum length of 14 (fourteen) inches’
- And…it must be one of the TAGGED BASS for the event.
- Oh yeah, you better have a valid Oklahoma Fishing license as well…
So here’s what’s happening…
500 wild largemouth bass that are at least 14′ long are going to be tagged and distributed evenly all over Grand Lake by a Contest Official and GRDA.
Each tagged fish gives you a chance to win when you catch it.
Like I said, there are rules including taking a picture once you catch the fish that clearly shows the tag# and the fish as well as clipping the tag and all sorts of stuff.
So, GO HERE and read the rules!
In addition to your chance to win up to $250,000, there will also be chances for $100,000, $50,000, $25,000, $10,000, $5,000 and several $1,000 chances – again see the official rules – plus other gifts and gift certificates to Grand Lake area businesses.
To win you must catch a tagged Bass during the event time-frame of April 1, 2014 – May 18, 2014. You must have previously purchased a badge and a fishing license before a tagged fish can be caught and counted.
Plus, you might even get to take a lie detector test! If a Tagged Bass is turned in that is worth $10,000 or more, a polygraph test will be administered to the angler. Again…see the official rules!
You can find out about all of the prizes by clicking this link. Make sure to find the blue button on the right side of that page for a link to the up-to-date prize listings.
So, there are going to be 500 tagged bass swimming around in Grand Lake that you can catch and win cash or prizes.
You MUST REGISTER in advance and purchase a Commemorative Key Chain Badge to participate in the tagged bass event and be eligible to win prizes.
Each badge is only $20 and there is only one badge per angler. Each angler must have a fishing license and a badge to turn in a tagged fish. A fishing license is not necessary to purchase a badge, however.
Badges can be purchased online here, or by mailing in a Registration form with your payment – you can find that Registration form at the same link. You can also purchase your event badge in person at the Grand Lake Visitor Center in Grove, Grand Lake Sports Center in Grove, Littlefield’s Bait and Tackle in Grove and Monkey Island and Ketch-um Bait Shop just North of Ketchum on Highway 82.
If you register online or by sending in your form, once payment has been received, your Commemorative Key-chain will be mailed to you within 5 business days.
Alright, there are just a couple of other things…
As has been discussed, to participate in the Tagged Bass event, a badge must have been purchased before the catch. Each Badge is a special Commemorative Key-chain with a unique number. The number of the badge must match the name of the person turning in a Tagged Bass. Again…check out those official rules.
Also, as an added bonus, the Grand Lake Association will be sponsoring tagged bass for other tournaments on Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees throughout the year and the badge that you purchase for the Grand Lake Extravaganza will be good for any GLA sponsored fishing event.
Make sure to visit www.grandlakefun.com to get a list of those events.
So there you have it. Whether you already call Grand Lake home, visit regularly or have always wanted to fish at Grand…the Grand Lake Extravaganza is the perfect time to get that line in the water.
After all, if you don’t fish, you can’t win!
The Grand Lake Extravaganza is going to be the world’s largest tagged bass event, and it will take place right here on good ol’ Grand Lake.
Grand Lake has been the home to many prestigious fishing tournaments, including 2013 B.A.S.S. Bassmaster Classic, the 2012 American Bass Anglers National Championship, the Bass Federation National Championship, the FLW Wal-Mart Tour, the 2013 Professional Anglers Association, the upcoming 2014 National Bass Anglers Association National Championship, plus hundreds of local and regional tournaments over the years.
Now it is home to the Grand Lake Association Extravaganza,
So buy your badge and get your line in the Grand Lake water between April 1st and May 18th and you might just win!
