September 24th Update from Tony Coatney –
Hello Grand Lakers!
Well, the large mouth fishing has been really slow. I think it’s the clear water and the zebra mussels. The fish don’t want to go shallow because of the clear water. At least, that’s what I think – I’m not a fan of the clear water.
The best thing I have seen so far is lowering the lake kills some of the zebra mussels. Not sure if that’s good or not, but seeing a lot of dead zebra mussels on dry rocks, so I think that’s good.
White bass have been very good on the firecracker from Littlefield Sports.
I’ve been catching a lot of crappie – small ones on the bank.
Haven’t heard much about catfish and the spoonbill have moved back to deeper water.
Until next time…GOOD LUCK FISHING from Tony Coatney!
September 23 Update from Rusty Pritchard
Catfishing is really starting to heat up!
Took out a trip yesterday and my clients boated 23 bluecats! All were good eater fish.
We started drifting around the Shangri La area and did fairly well. We ended up moving to around Governors Island and did the best in this area.
Seems like the 30-35 foot range was the best depth. I was drifting cut shad on Carolina Rigs and using 5/0 Team Catfish Double Action hooks.
Crappie are biting really week on 1″ and 2″ Go Go Minnows swinging through the tops of brush in about 10′ of water. I’ve been graphing over the piles and searching for the biggest number of fish on the graph before I drop a line.
Whitebass are starting to get on the fall pattern! Troll windy shallow points with Go Go minnows. Look for shad present and get ready! This bite will get better and better as the water continues to cool!!
It’s never too early to think about spoonbill! They will start the migration to the wintering holes soon!
Give me a call to get your dates to go out and catch one of these dinosaurs!!
Bowfishing continues to be great! Lots of gar and buffalo are being shot still!! This is an awesome way to get your bow hunting fix before deer season!!
Also make sure to friend me on Facebook and keep up with me daily!!
September 14th Update from Tony Coatney –
Hello, Grand Lakers!
Well its been a great summer, the weather has been cool. Hope we don’t pay for that this winter! They say it is going to be a cold winter, but I will be south.
Grand Lake fishing has been pretty good. As for the white bass they where really good all summer on spoons but after Labor Day they started their fall bite and moved to the banks. Find any windy point and throw that firecracker minnow. It’s the number one bait I use this time of year – use 1/8 ounce jig head on my Lew’s custom spinning rod and my Lew’s spinning reel on 8 lb sunline.
It doesn’t get any better.. .Littlefield’s Sports has everything I use.
Large mouth – well I have a tournament this weekend will give more info next week.
Crappie – I have been catching a lot of crappie on the banks with the white bass some good ones also.
Until next time, Good Luck Fishing from Tony Coatney!
