Har-Ber Village Museum opens for its 51st season on Saturday, March 16.

The museum is open 5 days per week, Thursday through Monday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

The pioneer-era village, complete with Visitor Center, The Country Store gift shop, Nature Trail, Picnic Pavilion and Event Tent allows visitors to experience the area’s history and ecology as well as view collections of antiques and memorabilia.

The Café at Har-Ber Village will also open on March 16, and continue open the same days as the museum, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Café can be reached at 918-787-7617.

“We continue to focus on families with children and are adding new hands-on stations for families with children to explore,” said Executive Director Amelia Chamberlain.

“During Spring Break, we’ll have the Nature Activity Room open for crafts and science exploration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On March 18 create a beaded gecko, on March 21st create an Ojo de Dîos, on March 22 make a wooden peace sign, and on March 23 visit with Grand Lake Audubon members. Also on March 23, the Living History Cabin will be open for pioneer hearth cooking with Tim and Ruth. All activities are included with admission. Adults $10; Seniors $7.50; ages 6-13 $5; under 6 and members free.”

“This year we will be offering a wide variety of activities celebrating different national recognition days throughout the season. We’ll celebrate such events as Armed Forces Day, Best Friend Day, Log Cabin Day, National Picnic Month, National Watermelon Day, and more.,” said Program and Education Coordinator Paula Keefer.

“You’ll see Har-Ber Village staff, volunteers, and board members at a number of community sites and events this year—from the Grove Public Library in March to Lendonwood’s Art in the Garden in May to Toes in the Grand in June to the Grand Lake o’ the Cherokees Quilt Guild Show in July.”

The Nature Trail continues to be a popular activity with human and canine walkers and joggers.

The Trail is open dawn to dusk, 7 days a week and is free!

Trail users are asked to stay out of the Museum Village when it is closed; anyone wishing to walk the Village must pay museum admission—or become a member to walk through for free!

In late spring the Har-Ber Village Mining Company will open—thanks to funding from the Corkle Family and Grove Rotary foundations.

Mining “rough” may be purchased at the Country Store in the Visitor Center and then taken to the mining sluice for panning.

The station, located next to the main parking lot and near the Nature Trail Cabin Trailhead, will be open during regular museum hours, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
