It might not feel like it outside, but Memorial Day Weekend at Grand Lake is here again!
It’s the unofficial first weekend of the summer, but, yep, it’s probably going to rain. A lot.
That’s OK. If you are strategic you’ll be able to pick and choose your spots to get out on the lake and make the most of the weekend.
I’m not professionally trained in making wild-ass guesses at the weather, but my people tell me that Saturday and Monday are the target boating days. So, plan accordingly.
By the way…while you are griping about all the rain this weekend, stop for a minute and think about what Memorial Day is all about.
Memorial Day honors the men and women who have lost their lives in serving our great country. Think about that. God bless every single one of them.
Alrighty then, so what’s happening around the lake this weekend? A lot.
There is live music all over, all of the waterfront bars and restaurants are open and events at the Bernice Nature Center and Har-Ber Village Museum.
If you are concerned about the lake level issue, there is a public meeting at Cherokee Yacht Club on Saturday morning at 10 am to bring you up to date on how you can help.
Oh yeah, you can go fishing…HERE is the latest fishing report.
Probably your best bet is just to go over to the Events Page and check it all out for yourself.
Plus, just in case you didn’t know – and you didn’t – Saturday the 23rd is World Turtle Day. And in celebration of World Turtle Day, the Grove Public Library is hosting a meet-and-greet with Moses, a 112-pound African Spurred Tortoise from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
So there’s that.
All in all, it will also be a great weekend to just hang out with your family and friends at Grand Lake – whether it’s raining or not.
Lots of times the best memories are made on rainy days at the lake, eating and drinking with family and friends, playing games, and just relaxing.
So go ahead…do that. Or do whatever you want. There are no rules….except to enjoy some Grand Lake Living!
