It looks like it’s going to be a PERFECT Fall weekend to get out the hoodies and enjoy some comfortable temperatures in the Grand Lake area while enjoying a couple of great events or just enjoying your time on the lake or with your family and friends.
Plus, OU & OSU are cooperating by moving their games to Saturday night just for those people in the Grand Lake area who like to get out and enjoy their day. By the way, have you checked out the Grand Lake Football Challenge?
Anyway, on to the weekend…
The Grand Lake Fall Festival season kicks off this week with the Annual Hook ‘N Cook Off presented by Vyve Broadband and hosted by the South Grand Lake Chamber of Commerce (or is it the Grand Lake Area Chamber of Commerce – whatever they are calling themselves these days, you know who I mean).
This event used to be held at Pelican Landing, which gave it more of a lake related feel, but now it’s hosted at the South Grand Lake Regional Airport, which does happen to be a great place for events like this with plenty of open space and room for vendors and visitors.
Gates will open at 9:30 and the tasting starts about 11:30. Cost is $8 at the gate or $7 in advance and there will be plenty besides great fish, hushpuppies and cole slaw with live music from local favorite Lickitty Split, a Kids Zone, many area vendors in what is being called Grand Lake Marketplace, vintage warbird airplane rides and plenty of beer and pop available as well from the Girlfriends of the Airport.
Also happening this weekend is the Miami FestiFall Celebration with events and activities planned Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Lots of great stuff at this festival including a crab boil (YES!), golf tournament, chili cook off, live entertainment, a 5K run, a car and motorcycle show and the annual sidewalk sale.
Whatever you do, enjoy your weekend at Grand Lake!

This shapes up to be a pretty quiet weekend around Grand Lake.
And, no, it’s not because of the annual draw down of the lake. People get busy again in late August, with kids back in school, football games and practices, softball games and practices and much more.
Don’t get me wrong. The lake level issue is important and something to try to correct, but it is NOT the reason there aren’t any big events around the lake this weekend.
Anyway, Grand Lake’s favorite – Don White – does have a show Saturday night in Langley at Pickles Pub.
Don has recently generated quite a bit of attention for his collaboration with Eric Clapton and others on the tribute album to Tulsa’s own J.J. Cale.
There is more live music all over, the farmer’s markets are still going strong in Grove & Langley, all of Grand Lake’s favorite waterfront bars and restaurants are open and the weather will be just right to get out in the middle of Grand Lake and jump in.
And take it easy this weekend, because next weekend is not just Labor Day…it’s Football Season!
Speaking of which, we are excited to announce the 2014 Grand Lake Football Challenge!
Think you know your football? Well, prove it by picking 15 to 20 select games each week for weekly – and season long – prizes.
Everything is still being put together, but you can GO HERE NOW to register for the 2014 Grand Lake Football Challenge.

Not a lot of big activities around Grand Lake this weekend, but that’s OK. The lake is a big activity all by itself!
There is, however, a big garage sale in Grove this weekend that benefits the education and safety efforts of the Grand Lake Sail & Power Squadron.
The sale takes place on Friday & Saturday, August 15th & 16th, at 1415 N. 55th Street in Grove.
You will find all sorts of household goods, decor, books, antiques, collectibles, nautical items, lake toys and much, much more.
So, if you like garage sailing, go find the Grand Lake Sail & Power Squadron garage sale this weekend in Grove.
Otherwise, it feels like a great weekend to get out and do some tubing or skating or skiing, and then rafting out with your friends before you head off to a great Grand Lake waterfront restaurant for some food and fun.
Or, maybe a little golfing?
Plus there is all sorts of mid-summer nightlife with live music and parties all over the Grand Lake area.
The lake tends to slow down this time of year with the kids back in school and colleges getting back in the groove, but it’s still an awesome time to be on the water at Grand Lake.

Well, the days are getting shorter, the kids are heading back to school, but it’s still summertime awesome at Grand Lake!
Warm weather, warm water and lots going on around the lake make for another perfect August weekend.
On the water, it’s a great weekend to just hang out with your friends and family in your favorite cove, do some tubing and skiing and skating, and find a great lakefront restaurant to get some lunch or dinner.
Off the water, Saturday is a busy day in Grove and Jay.
In Grove, at Har-Ber Village Museum, Saturday is the annual Ecology & Environment Day.
This is a great place to learn about important environmental matters in the Grand Lake area, with displays on everything from water quality to recycling.
Besides, Har-Ber Village is just a great place to spend a Saturday anyway.
In Jay on Saturday is Jay Cruise Night 2014.
This is known as the largest car cruise event in Northeast Oklahoma.
Jay Cruise Night encourages folks to bring their lawn chairs, pull up a seat along Main Street and watch all of the classic cars, antiques, street rods, motorcycles and muscle cars make their way through downtown Jay.
Whatever you do this weekend, just get out and enjoy the warm August summertime in the Grand Lake area.
Updated – Here’s what’s happening this weekend – August 2nd & 3rd – at Grand Lake
It’s another summertime weekend at Grand Lake, so that must mean that there is another party on the lake!
This time, it’s at Arrowhead Yacht Club and everyone is welcome. This is NOT a members only event.
The event is the 10th Annual Boats, Bikes, Bikinis & BBQ, a tribute to Ty Harris from his friends with all proceeds benefitting the South Grand Lakers Helping Children and the Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A.) – Northeast Oklahoma Chapter.
The fun starts at 11 am and will last until about 4 pm, with local favorites Lickitty Split busting out the jams from 11:30 to 3:30.
Admission to the event is free, and there will be BBQ available all day, a Bikini Contest with no entry fee (But $1,000 for the winner and $500 for 2nd place), plus a boat show, vendors and a silent auction to raise funds for the great causes supported by this cool event.
So, make plans in your busy Saturday to stop by Arrowhead for Boats, Bikes, Bikinis & BBQ.
That’s really about it for big events this weekend.
Off the water, this Saturday is the Vinita Sidewalk Sale, so run into Vinita and find some great deals with the kids getting ready to head back to school.
You can also come out and support the new PAAS – Peaceful Animal Adoption Shelter – in Vinita as they will have donation containers at the Paws and Claws Home Store, 128 S Wilson.
They are in need of towels, blankets, toys, leashes, and collars. The greatest need is towels and blankets – – gently used no problem. Donation receipts will be available.
Back on the water, of course, there will be all of your private and not so private raft-ups with your friends, from Woodard Hollow on the North end to Party Cove at the South.
So get out there and have a great weekend!
This is a new feature of the Grand Lake Living website, a weekly update on the upcoming weekend activities on and around Grand Lake.
So with that, here you go…
And by the way, someone turned the thermostat up, so it’s going to be a little on the warm side this weekend. That’s Ok. It’s Oklahoma. And, it’s July.
Here’s what’s happening this weekend – July 26th & 27th – at Grand Lake.
On The Water:
While this event is part of a customer appreciation weekend for Cobalt Boat owners, courtesy of Arrowhead Yacht Club & Boat Sales, the Splash Bash is open to everyone and going to be a great party.
Recommended Dose will be playing from 1 pm until 5 pm and VIP Pizza will be on hand keeping everyone fed.
These raft-ups and parties are a big party of your Grand Lake summer, so if you’re out on your boat on Saturday, head on in to Ketchum Cove for some live music and good time.
Of The Water:
The big event on land this weekend is the Grove Human Society’s ‘Cars For Critters’ fundraiser taking place on Saturday at the Grove Civic Center.
This is an indoor car show taking place from 11 am to 3 pm featuring everything from American Classics to European Exotics for all you car lovers.
This is a great cause, with all proceeds benefitting the Grove Human Society, which just broke ground on a big renovation project for their facility in Grove.
By the way, the Humane Society of Grove & Grand Lake has changed their name. They are now the Second Chance Pet Rescue of Grand Lake. Good stuff!
That’s just the big stuff this weekend.
Of course there is all the summertime goodness that you expect all the time at Grand Lake…from the great area attractions to all the fun on the water stuff, just get out there and enjoy this weekend at Grand Lake!
